MP Biomedicals New Zealand Limited

#

MP Biomedicals New Zealand Ltd (MP Bio) is a specialized manufacturer of high-quality bovine proteins and has gained an international reputation in providing bovine plasma proteins to the global bio-pharmaceutical, animal health and diagnostic industry, and to prominent research institutes in New Zealand and abroad for various mammalian cell culture research and embryo transfer applications. An ISO 9001:2015 certificate, quality systems audited to cGMP principles, further endorsed by EDQM TSE Certificates of Suitability (CEP) for key products, aim at providing the highest product quality standard in the bovine blood plasma industry.

MP Bio has a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Henderson, Auckland. The chromatographic separation process is used for the extraction of various proteins. This technologically advanced method does not use solvents, heat or stabilizers to extract the protein and hence leaves the protein molecule fully intact. This in turn leads to higher cell culture and cell expression performance for their customers. Higher performances in cell growth and production titers has resulted in substantial savings in terms of time and process efficiencies and therefore lower costs for their customers.

Apart from chromatographic columns, MP Bio also have high-end separation equipment such as a Super-centrifuge, SS316 Filter Press, and Lyophilizers of various sizes that help it produce various bovine products and grades. The following products are manufactured at the Henderson facility with bovine plasma sourced from major abattoirs based in New Zealand.

Bovine Serum Albumin: Various grades of BSA are produced and MP Bio has an excellent technical team to assist customers in selecting the right BSA for their critical applications. The grades are:

  1. Low IgG grade
  2. Low free fatty acid grade
  3. Low endotoxin grade
  4. Protease-reduced grade
  5. Microbiological grade
  6. Ultra-low IgG grade

Thrombin: Both the low specific activity and the high specific activity grades of thrombin are provided. This product is primarily used in coagulation diagnostics and the haemostasis industry.

Immunoglobulin G: IgG is used in ELISA and in some cases has replaced BSA as an effective blocking agent

Fibrinogen: This product is primarily used in coagulation diagnostics and the haemostasis industry. Reacts with thrombin to form Fibrin which is used in wound healing applications

Transferrin: It is used as a nutrient in cell and microbial culture, and as a media supplement in the production of bio-pharmaceutical products. MP Bio produces 2 grades of Transferrin viz: HOLO (iron saturated) and APO (iron depleted)

Apart from manufacturing bovine proteins, MP Bio also provides contract services in chromatography and lyophilization operations especially in removing IgG from serums or freeze-drying various products in a closed system.
