ICWES19
The 19th International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists, Auckland, New Zealand
Aotearoa New Zealand is a recognised leader in many fields of STEM despite its small size. We’re a nation of innovators; science and engineering allow us to thrive far from the rest of the world. Our economy is dependent on STEM-based industries – from agriculture and biotechnology, to information technology and manufacturing – and we are guardians of unique natural environments, biodiversity and culture.
On behalf of the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES), the Association for Women in the Sciences (AWIS) and Engineering New Zealand are delighted to have the opportunity to share our stories of women in science and engineering with the world through ICWES19 (the 19th International Conference for Women Engineers and Scientists), and are excited to invite others to share their expertise while exploring our shores.
AWIS is a national New Zealand organisation that works to better the position of all women working in the sciences, including those practicing, teaching or supporting science and those studying science at a tertiary level. Formed in 1985, the organisation provides a network for women with an interest in STEM to share experience and skills, allowing them to gain confidence in their role and increase self-knowledge. AWIS’s strategy is focused on reducing bias in the workplace, career development, and ensuring work-life balance for women working in STEM.
Engineering New Zealand is a non-profit membership organisation helping engineers be the best, so they can engineer better lives for New Zealanders. They’re the voice of engineering and aren’t afraid to ask the hard questions, seek expert advice, explore possibilities, and partner with all sectors of society to drive this. They’re dedicated to building a strong engineering profession that New Zealanders have confidence in and can trust.
ICWES19 is the triennial flagship event of the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES). INWES is a global network of organisations of women in STEM, reaching over 60 countries worldwide. The goal of INWES is to build a better future worldwide through the full and effective participation of women and girls in all aspects of STEM.
