The Inaugural Aotearoa New Zealand Cultured Meat and Seafood Symposium
The first dedicated cultured meat and seafood event hosted in Aotearoa New Zealand.
After two postponements in 2021, we are excited to hold this event on Wednesday 23 February 2022 on zoom.
A networking event will be held after in Auckland Central. Register here.
Over the past decade the field of cultured meat and seafood has greatly accelerated around the world. The price of cultured meat has dropped dramatically from the initial €280K demo cost of Mark Post’s hamburger to $50 for JUST Eats Chicken Nuggets. In 2020, Singapore was the first country to approve a cultured meat product for human consumption and reports multiple products in the regulatory pipeline. These signs suggest that product commercialisation could occur within the next decade. The social acceptance, uptake and production of these products will vary internationally.
This event aims to begin a conversation around the role of this technology in the current and future context of the Aotearoa New Zealand food production system, and formally bring together parties who have an interest in the topic. To facilitate discussions the event will host an array of topics ranging from the scientific and technical aspects of the technology to the regulation and investment trends. The event is inclusive to all backgrounds and open to anyone interested in this topic, from scientists, thought leaders, industry stakeholders, farmers and investors.
