Valuing Intellectual Property

This seminar provides an overview of the principles and practice of IP valuation. You will learn about the various drivers of IP value, including offensive, defensive, and leadership sources.

Using a variety of real-world examples, the basic principles of IP valuation and how these are typically applied in practice to various IP assets will also be discussed.

Jay Shaw leads Grant Thornton NZ’s business valuation service line and currently sits on the business valuation board of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC), the established standards setter for the business valuation profession globally.

Jay has more than 17 years valuation experience in both NZ and in the UK. This includes numerous IP and intangible asset valuations including for dispute, financial reporting, tax, restructuring and M&A purposes. He recently presented on IP financing and the valuation of IP and intangibles at the IVAS-IVSC Valuation Conference in Singapore.
